Between Pragueberfest posts..here's some light reading

From a friend's link on Facebook found this great NYT review, chef's mom's rebuke/review and response by the chef.

From the Careerist:

"Don't even think about ditching your legal career--unless you know you'll be supersuccessful in your dream pursuit. Because if you're not, your mom--especially if she's (forgive the stereotype) Asian--will come after you. And she'll probably be reminding you of that Big Mistake for the rest of your life.
That's what Eddie Huang, a former Chadbourne & Parke associate turned hip-hop chef, has been experiencing since The New York Times gave his too-cool restaurant XiaoYe a mediocre review"

From Eddie's personal blog:

"Trust me, you much keep your bar license active just in case you need it. You do not even understand your own strength or the whole scope of this business, and you are not even willing to listen. YOU MUST GET BURNT BEFORE YOU WILL HEAR YOUR MOM."

I truly enjoyed the Salon piece detailing Eddie Huang's response to all this.

"But would you, like Eddie Huang, chef and owner of the recently bruised-up Xiao Ye, take it like a grown man, declare the review a lesson to learn from, and post your mom's scolding email to you on your blog?"

Tough loving Asian moms. They kick you in the ass, demoralize you but at the same time love you more than anything in the world. Gotta love it.
